The Ranjha are a gotra (clan) of Jat, found in the eastern uplands of Sargodha, Mandi Bahauddin and Gujrat districts, of Punjab, Pakistan.[1] A small number are also found in Jhelum and Gujranwala districts. There is also historical presence of the Ranjha tribe in Baluchistan and Sindh specifically Ranjhapur.

History and origin

Hashim ali Ranjha [Dara buhan Ranjha]

Their traditions tells that they are the descendants of the Jats from Eastern Punjab. However tracing further back the Ranjha tribe is also found in Sindh and Balochistan prior to the migration to the more fertile lands of Punjab. Ranjhapur is such a town in Balochistan. The tradition has it that ancestor of the tribe, Sultan Mohammad, who was an Arab and a close companion as well as a brave commander in the troop of Muhammad Bin Qasim during the Ummyyad Caliphate in 710CE[1].When Muhammad bin Qasim Al-Thaqafi (Arabic: محمد بن قاسم‎ attacked Sindh who was sent by Al-Hajjaj ibn Yusuf Governer in Syria during the Ummyyad Caliphate. When Mohammab Bin Qasim was called back Sultan Mohammad stayed in Sindh. He got married here and spent his remaining life in Sindh. He is main root of Ranjha Tribe in Sindh and then his further race spread in Sindh as well as Easter province. Sultan Mohammad belongs to Quresh tribe and his forfathers are prominet persons during origin of Islam were Ikrma Bin Umar one of the companion of Muhammad who become shaheed during war to conquer Syria. Ikrma was son of Ummer Bin Hisham.So Ranjha Tribe's family Tree also connected with Quresh Tribe.

Villages

In Sargodha District, The mostly Ranjha's tribe found in korey kot, Rahimpur & others are in Wah Miana, Midh Ranjha, Buccha Kalan, Mela, Dhingran-aali, Kot Fazal Ahmed Jhol Pur and Rajey Wala(Bhera) . Ranjhas own large villages of fertile Citrus growing Lands in District Sargodha and are considered to be one of the most influential, powerful and affluent clans of the district (particularly in Tehsil Bhalwal), where they hold most of the National and Provincial assemblies seats. In Tehsil Sargodha Ranjha's also hold a piece of land in native village 88 SB. Maqsood Ranjha is a prominent stack holder of 88 SB, they are originally migrated from "Kot Ranjha" District Gujrat. In Mandi Bahauddin District, the Ranjha are found in Bhindar Kalan, Phalia, Wah miana Madhre, Dhaul Ranjha, Ratowal, Makkewal, Khamb Kurd,GREAT MIANWAL RANJHA, Anhay, Pandowal, Kotali Mastani, Nain, Ghang, Sajan, Sahbowal, Bhojuwal, Khairewal, Burg Agar, Bhukh, Ghanni Ghanna, Chak Mian,Kot Sher Muhammad, Musa Kalan, Kot Hast Khan, Musa Kurd, Hamber, Walayt wala, Ghut Kurd, Khumb Kalan, Chut Kalan, Noorpur Kehna, Khanb Alam, Ghar Lakhan, Chak chut, Burg Hassan, Burg Ghanian, Raan, Bherowal, Takhar Kalan, Takhar Miana, Fatehwala, and Wariyaam, Thatha Hust, Thatha Ameer.[2]

In Jhelum District, the Ranjhas are found in Ranjha village.

In Chakwal District, the Ranjha are found in Ranjha village.

In Dera Ghazi Khan District, the Ranjha are found in Basti ranjha and Rakh Ranjha.

In Pind Dadan Khan Tehsil, the ranjha are found in Sammanwal

Ranjha's are in Villaga Nathian P.O. Dhudi Phaphara Tehsil Pind Dadan Khan

In Muzaffar Garh District, Tehsil Kot Adu, the ranjha's are found in Chack 611 TDA. In Ranjhapur, the ranjha are found in Balochistan/Sindh
